Week 2 :)
I finished Season 1 this week! Election Day was great - I spent my morning in bed watching episodes of The Crown before the polls started rolling in and I went downhill. Anyways...
I actually loved the second half of Season 1. Vibes are definitely immaculate and the plot is definitely getting more complex. Central to these episodes is the relationship between Queen Elizabeth's sister, Margaret, and the man that she's in love with, Peter Townsend. There's a whole lot of "drama" here about acts that prohibit their marriage and other stuff concerning not just the marriage but Margaret's personality and how men don't like feisty women that I won't get into too much here (maybe you should watch to find out!) Also, you may have noticed, I call her Queen Elizabeth - she does get coronated during this season which was fun to watch.
Ok, so the real reason why I got a lot more invested is that there's increasingly more portrayal of the politics side of British history in these episodes, which was super cool. I know this is called The Crown and it centers around royalty but I really could not care less (I can always read a tabloid like The Daily Mail). The show does a pretty good job positioning Elizabeth's role as Queen in the broader political and international tensions that the UK was embroiled in throughout these years. Also liked the portrayal of Winston Churchill, it's super accurate (although I don't particularly like him as a person). There were a lot of tidbits I didn't know about British Prime Ministers which were cool I guess.
Anyways! I'm looking forward to Season 2, check back next week (or go watch The Crown.) Bye!
