The Crown Season 2 (2 POSTS IN 1!?!?!?)

Hi! Sorry this post is late... I'm sure you all have been waiting (that's what I like to tell myself) :)

So I'm going to be combining two posts in one since I didn't post last week but I still watched half a season each week. Meaning I'm going to be reviewing all of Season 2. Ready?

Ok, so, this season had a LOT of characters and it was definitely a bit difficult to keep track of all of them. The Crown does a pretty good job in my opinion of bringing together aspects of royal life and the history of the British Crown as well as British politics of the day (since they are so intertwined) but that means you're juggling a lot at once. This season also goes over a lot of the international conflicts and relationships Great Britain had, both with other pro-US powers in the Cold War and the process of decolonization occurring in broad swaths of Asia and Africa.

Something I didn't know that much about was the tension between Elizabeth and Philip's marriage and the show does a pretty good job of portraying this in a sympathetic and fair light. I was also surprised at how involved Queen Elizabeth was with public affairs and Britain's relations abroad - she does confront a lot of the men in power in Parliament and Downing Street when they're about to do stupid things (although she can't really stop them :( ) I've always sort of thought of the monarchy as being a mere object of attention and curiosity we would give a celebrity and this season definitely did not confirm that.

I've hinted at this a bit before but I definitely enjoyed this season a lot more than the first ones. I really loved the vibes and I definitely like that the story is getting more and more complex. I've mentioned this before but I initially regretted signing myself up to watch 4 seasons of this show after realizing I'm not as fascinated by the monarchy as I am by British politics and the role it captures in the world order and while Season 2 did have some episodes where I was a bit bored from the sheer amount of family drama or emotional cocktail I was forcing myself to sit through, there is a lot more substance to this and it's woven will with broader concerns about respectability and how the monarchy should behave since they are the face of the UK.

Shoutout to the soundtrack as well - it definitely added to the vibes and it's nice music to listen to while reading a book! (If you want a book recommendation with immaculate vibes that I read over break, read Maurice by E.M. Forster)

Anyways, I'll be back next week to review Season 3 (or the first half at least). Also, Netflix apparently released Season 5 recently? I swear, they release a season like every other day. Should I try to fit that into my blogging schedule? Let me know (or maybe don't). Anywho, I'm off. Cheers!
